Whomever dreamt up this marketing idea ⬆️ was a genius. How much more obvious could you get. A Pelican next to rapids = Pelican rapids. I love it. Anyway, let me tell you about Pelican rapids.

Here’s what you need to know.

Pelican Rapids is a Minnesota city in Otter Tail County. According to the 2010 census, the population was 2,464 people. Pelican Rapids was platted in 1872 and named for the Pelican River’s rapids. Since 1872, there has been a post office in Pelican Rapids. The city of Pelican Rapids was founded in 1882.

Hot damn this place is quirky & fun. This is the part that I’d like to. You can Explore the Art through Pelican Sculptures and Art Benches.

In addition to the world’s largest pelican, Pelican Rapids is home to a number of “Friends of Pete” pelican statues. Each pelican sculpture is hand-painted and embellished with one-of-a-kind outfits and motifs. To name a few, there’s a construction pelican, a dalmatian fire dog pelican, and a pharmacist pelican. We walked throughout town and found 12 sculptures, but there may be more that we missed!

Three art benches can also be found throughout town. Elementary children collaborated with their art teacher, Kate Martinez, and a local metal craftsman, Tom Christiansen, to make the metal benches. Students in grades 3-6 finished the project by selecting a member of the community, interviewing them, and then drawing their profile. Six of the profiles were chosen to be cast in metal and used to create three bronze benches that may be found on Main Street

What do you know about Anderson island ?

https://landishome.com/shop/anderson-island-lot-washington/

Whenever I think of an island , almost immediately I start to hear the song ‘islands in the stream’ & I think of Tom Hanks talking to Wilson. Islands are actually quite nice & tranquil destinations. Have you heard of Anderson island? This place is quite cool , let me tell you about it.

About Anderson island

Anderson Island is a census-designated place in Pierce County, Washington, United States, and is the southernmost island in Puget Sound. It can be reached by boat or by taking a 20-minute ferry journey from Steilacoom. Just south of McNeil Island is Anderson Island. Drayton Passage separates Key Peninsula from the rest of the peninsula to the northwest. To the southeast, the island is separated from the mainland by Puget Sound’s south basin, while to the southwest, the island is separated from the mainland by Puget Sound’s Nisqually Reach.

The island was part of the Steilacoom people’s domain, a Coast Salish tribe.

Charles Wilkes of the United States Exploring Expedition named the island in 1841. Mr. Anderson and Captain McNeill gave Wilkes a warm welcome at Fort Nisqually and aided his operations, so he rewarded their courtesy by naming two adjacent islands after them.

The first European settlers to dwell on the island were Andrew N. Christensen, a Dane, and his brother, Christian F. Christensen, in 1870. Andrew’s wife had an important role in the island’s growth. Christian was the only Christensen brother to live on Anderson Island permanently. The sale of wood to the wood-burning steamers that came into Amsterdam Bay was the mainstay of the economy. Brick-making, farming, and fishing were among the early enterprises.

The single General Store on the island is owned and operated by a local person.

What’s there to do ?

It’s got quite a few places for you to visit & things to do, you can go to

  • Pioneer orchard park
  • Topside bar & grill
  • Steilacoom histocal museum
  • Sunnyside beach
  • The home course golf course

Bay, St Louis = Heaven on earth

https://landishome.com/shop/residential-land-bay-st-louis-ms-5000-sq-ft/

Bay Saint Louis is a town in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. It is located 58 miles (93 kilometers) northeast of New Orleans, Louisiana, on the Mississippi Sound (a Gulf of Mexico embayment) near the mouth to St. Louis Bay (named after Louis IX of France in 1699). Thomas Shields received the land in 1789 as part of a Spanish land grant. After the completion of the New Orleans, Mobile, and Chattanooga Railroad in 1869, the community quickly became a retreat for wealthy planters and, later, tourists. Shieldsborough was incorporated in 1818, while Bay Saint Louis was incorporated in 1882.

During the War of 1812, the bay was the site of the Battle of Pass Christian, a naval fight against the British. Casino gambling spurred the city’s expansion in the late twentieth century, considerably increasing the importance of tourism to the local economy. Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on Bay Saint Louis and most of Hancock County in 2005; the nearby city of Waveland was virtually leveled. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) John C. Stennis Space Center located about 15 miles west of the city.

Cul-de-sac

Cul-de-sac

Cul-de-Sacs are one-way streets that lead nowhere. They’re most popular in American and European suburbs, where houses of similar forms and shapes are stacked on top of one another. Cul-de-Sacs were built to slow traffic and provide enough space for cars to pass by each house in the area. It was a technique to prevent erratic traffic growth in the suburbs or even within the city, where dead end streets prevent vehicles from passing. Cul-de-Sacs are part of a grid plan city structure that emerged in the 1970s in the United States and the United Kingdom. Although it prevents traffic at the end of the street and normally has a circular bend, it can be aligned to one way traffic.

Cul-de-Sac streets in the suburbs are subdivided into one or more central roads in the subdivision of streets of various sizes linking from the major roads to partition the land. The Cul-De-Sac has several advantages, according to early urban designers, especially in residential neighborhoods, where the grid pattern prevents traffic congestion, decreases noise, and helps prevent air pollution. There is also a significant reduction in the number of accidents in Cul-De-Sac communities since no vehicles are continually driving towards one other. However, since prior generations, this perception has shifted dramatically.

What is a Cul-De-Sac?

Since the 15th century, or perhaps before, dead end streets have been a feature of the world. During the early ancient ages, it was a strategy employed to prevent civil wars and provide protection for military vehicles passing through. Cul-de-Sacs, on the other hand, were originally legalized in England in 1906 as part of the Hampstead Garden Suburb Act. This style of layout was deemed to be perfect in suburbs with gardens since it allowed for a more calm traffic flow and reduced congestion. The 1906 Act prohibited vehicles from passing through the cul-de-sac, requiring them to drive around it. The cul-de-sac was limited to 500 feet in length. All of the Garden Cities were influenced by the Hampstead Garden Suburb Act.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, dead end streets became increasingly popular, with numerous suburbs being built in industrialized countries such as the United States, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, to name a few. People desired to live in their own spacious houses in residential suburbs, away from the city center, in order to have more space for a family-style living arrangement. This was due to the widespread use of automobiles and the popularity of automobile-driven vehicles. Cul-de-Sacs were considered as a sign that, unlike the inner city, the suburbs were not easily accessible to automobiles.

I’ve never had the privilege of living in a cul-de-sac, however, I’ve always wanted to. They look so cool & I think they rock.

Time for you to get yourself a lot in a cul-de-sac !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
