The news of this massive calamity shocked the entire state, and neighboring towns and municipalities rushed to offer assistance. Doc Graham was a community and school doctor for fifty years and played right field for the New York Giants in a single major league game on June 29th 1905. He was portrayed by Burt Lancaster in the 1989 film “The Field of Dreams.” Doc Graham’s house is still extant and can be visited, but his spirit is honored every year in August at Doc “Moonlight” Graham Days.
